A Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES) is a population analysis based on complete and accurate information on the size, age and sex composition, marital status of the population as well as educational characteristics such as school attendance, educational attainment, and literacy; the SDES collects data on the economic status of the population by asking usual occupation, and employment status and on population movements (migration); functional difficulty, fertility particulars, and mortality, household and housing characteristics.
SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC SURVEY IN GHOR AND DAIKUNDI PROVINCE
"With the generous financial support of the people of Japan, the Central Statistics Organization of Afghanistan (CSO) with the technical support of UNFPA, has implemented the first provincial Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES). "The survey that CSO inaugurates today is an important step forward to collect information about growth, movements, structures, living conditions, and spatial distribution of the country's population which is vital for relevant policy formulation, planning and implementation, and for monitoring and evaluation. POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT: NEW AGREEMENT FOR THE SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC SURVEY IN GOHR AND DAIKUNDI PROVINCE
Kabul, Afghanistan - The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Reiichiro Takahashi, and the UNFPA Representative, Dr. Laurent Zessler signed an agreement for 11.4 million USD to support the Central Statistics Organization of Afghanistan. The agreement refers primarily to the Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES) implementation in Ghor and Daikundi Province. Read more

A delegation from CSO, UNFPA and the Embassy of Japan arrived in Bamyan on 3 August 2011 to inaugurate the launch of the Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES) in the province. SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC SURVEY: DATA COLLECTORS TRAINING
One of the largest operations ever to be conducted in the mountainous province of Bamyan has just kicked off this week. Three weeks prior to this, over 500 residents of Bamyan were recruited and trained to be data collectors for the Socio-Demographic & Economic Survey.

COMMUNICATE THE SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC SURVEY IN THE BAMYAN PROVINCE
A communications strategy was formed with the aim to ensure that the population of Bamyan was sufficiently informed of the SDES exercise in their area and to allow for access to enumerators supervisors and other CSO and UNFPA staff.
A TV and radio spot was produced and aired for six weeks, starting two weeks before the start of the enumeration on various local TV and radio stations in Bamyan. Read more
