POST:  ASSISTANT REPRESENTATIVE

DUTY STATION: MALE', Maldives

Under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Country Director based in Colombo in coordination with the UNDP Resident Representative, the Assistant Representative has a dual role. He/she is the primary implementer of the Country Programme as well as playing a leadership role with a programme team in the country office. The Assistant Representative substantively contributes to the management of UNFPA activities. Acting as an analyst/advisor, the Assistant Representative proactively provides the Representative or Country Director with information on achievement of results in the implementation of UNFPA programmes.

The Assistant Representative establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with counterparts in government, multi lateral and bi-lateral donor agencies and civil society to address emerging issues and to facilitate programme delivery.

He/she must effectively influence counterparts from diverse backgrounds to jointly contribute to advance the ICPD policy agenda and UNFPA's Strategic Plan 2014-2017. The Assistant Representative acts on behalf of the Country Director or Representative in his or her absence.

Successful candidates must have a Master's degree in Management/Leadership, Economics, Public Policy, Law, and/or a specialized master's degree in social sciences or academic/research field relevant and applicable to UNFPA's mandate. We expect 5 to 8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of leadership and management, preferably in programme/project design, management in the public or private sector and/or in the UN. Experience from the private sector is a definite asset.

Fluency in English, with excellent writing, analytical and communication skills and knowledge of Dhivehi language is required. Candidates are expected to be proficient in current office software applications.

For the above position, we are looking for candidates who have:

Internship with UNFPA Maldives Country Office

Excellent opportunity to get direct exposure to the field of population and development and the work of UNFPA in the Maldives
Under the joint UN Programme on Low Emission Climate Resilience Development (LECReD), UNFPA Maldives supports the Atoll and Island Councils of Laamu Atoll to establish and manage their data and knowledge systems.

UNFPA has been working closely with National Bureau of Statistics and other sectorial ministries to establish data standards and broker easy access to available local level data for the Councils. Additionally we are supporting the establishment of an administrative data entry and management portal and the strengthening of the data management capacity of the Councils.
Purpose: The intern will provide administrative and logistical support to the project and acquire direct exposure to the field of population and development and the work of UNFPA in the Maldives.
Work Setting:
(a) Location: based in Male', Maldives. Possibility of field travel to Laamu Atoll.
(b) Duration: 2 months with the possibility of extension for up to 6 months.
(c) Timing: full-time basis (the intern is expected to work during normal working hours).
(d) Qualifications:
o Completion of secondary education;
o Written and spoken proficiency in English and Dhivehi;
o Proficient in computer skills, especially use of Microsoft Word and Excel;
o Interested in the field of development;
o Ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
(e) Basis: UNFPA internships are performed strictly on a non-remunerative basis.

UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund in Maldives is seeking competent parties, to be based in the National Institute of Education (NIE) and provide technical support to NIE, Ministry of Education, Male', Maldives, for the integration of reproductive health education in the national curriculum roll out process. The contractor will also provide support to advocate for its delivery from May to December 2015.

1) Capacity assessment on collection, compilation an analysis of data in Island and Atoll Councils of Laamu Atoll identifying requirements to strengthen the capacity. The assessment should also identify data that is being collected at the Island Councils and Atoll Councils of Laamu Atoll; and

2) LECReD data need assessment of the participating UN Agencies (PUNOs)
