Nepal Earthquake

In the aftermath of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April,UNFPA is working with the Government of Nepal, other UN agencies, development partners and other local stakeholders to address the needs of survivors. Our thoughts are with the Nepali people after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck central Nepal on 25 April, affecting more than 8 million people and causing widespread damage and destruction. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, responded immediately by using its prepositioned emergency kits. The UN Population Fund has been working with the Government of Nepal, development partners and other local stakeholders to address the needs of survivors. Our aid materials, mainly dignity kits as well as reproductive health kits, are being distributed in the worst-affected districts. UNFPA estimates some 2 million women and girls of reproductive age are among those affected - including some 126,000 pregnant women. read more
